Running RowPro in Vista PCs

RowPro uses the OpenGL graphics system for its 3D graphics, not the Microsoft DirectX graphics system.

To run RowPro in Windows Vista, your PC display driver needs to be designed for Vista, and needs to support OpenGL graphics under Vista, otherwise RowPro will not be able to use Hardware Acceleration, and the RowPro 3D graphics will run extremely slowly (around 1 fps) and may even appear to be frozen.

If RowPro runs at a very low frame rate in Vista, please check the following points:

If your PC shipped new with Vista

Your graphics driver will almost certainly work with DirectX in Vista but may not run at an acceptable frame rate with OpenGL. Check your PC manufacturer's website for an updated graphics driver. If none is available, you can use the SciTech GLDirect 5.0 utility (see link and instructions below) to enable RowPro to use DirectX instead of OpenGL in your PC, after which RowPro will almost certainly run at an acceptable frame rate.

If your PC shipped new with XP and was "Vista ready"

Check your PC manufacturer's website for a Vista graphics driver. If none is available and RowPro does not run at an acceptable frame rate, you can try the SciTech GLDirect 5.0 utility (see link and instructions below) to enable RowPro to use DirectX instead of OpenGL in your PC, after which RowPro may run at an acceptable frame rate. If RowPro still runs slowly, you will need to wait until your PC manufacturer issues Vista graphics drivers for your PC, or use another PC for RowPro.

If your PC shipped new with XP and was not "Vista ready"

Check your PC manufacturer's website for a Vista graphics driver. If none is available and RowPro does not run at an acceptable frame rate, you will probably need to use another PC for RowPro. If a Vista graphics driver is available for your PC but RowPro still runs slowly, you can try the SciTech GLDirect 5.0 utility (see link and instructions below) to enable RowPro to use DirectX instead of OpenGL in your PC, after which RowPro may run at an acceptable frame rate. If RowPro still runs slowly, you will probably need to use another PC for RowPro.

How to download, install and configure the SciTech GLDirect 5.0 utility

  1. Click here to download the SciTech GLDirect 5.0 utility.
  2. Click Save to save it to your hard disk.
  3. When the download is complete, use Windows Explorer to locate the downloaded file on your hard disk, right-click it and click Run as Administrator to install the OpenGL to DirectX converter.
  4. Allow your PC to reboot.
  5. When your PC restarts you’ll see a SciTech GLDirect Configuration dialog.
  6. Click the Register tab and enter the following free registration code to unlock the product. Copy or type the two fields exactly as you see them here:

    Full Name: Free Code

    Code: 1C10-0485-A489-E2

  1. Click the Main tab and check the Set Rendering Options drop-down list is set to SciTech GLDirect OpenGL Non-Shader Driver and the Hardware radio button is selected.

Note: If the Hardware radio button is grayed out and not selected, click the Defaults button at the bottom. This will change the Set Rendering Options drop-down to SciTech GLDirect Vertex/Pixel Shader OpenGL Driver and the Hardware radio button should now be accessible and selected. Now change the Set Rendering Options drop-down back to SciTech GLDirect OpenGL Non-Shader Driver. The Hardware radio button should remain accessible and selected. Click Apply.

  2. Now start RowPro and it should now work.
  3. If you see a black or white 3D pane in RowPro, make sure the settings in the SciTech GLDirect Configuration dialog are correct as described above.

Note: If you have closed the dialog, you can reopen it via the SciTech GLDirect folder in Start / All Programs. If you do this, you will need to right-click on the SciTech GLDirect Configuration entry in the Start / All Programs / SciTech GLDirect folder and select Run as administrator, otherwise you will get a message about requiring root user rights or about the OpenGL DLL currently running.
